Smoking room VIERNULVIER
Jong Panel
During a tour of the Vooruit building in Ghent with the VIERNULVIER Jong Panel to inspect the renovations, Kaj discovered that there were plans to integrate a new smoking room into the design. Because this went against the vision of a smoke-free generation, he initiated a lobbying campaign. After holding an internal debate within the Jong Panel to formulate a shared position, he raised the issue directly with the director. By emphasizing future European legislation and the organization's reputation - "not wanting to be the worst boy in the class" - he convinced the management to revise the plans. With success: the smoking area was removed from the design and has since been given a new, social purpose as a first aid room. This project illustrates Kaj's ability to realize concrete changes in the built environment through strategic dialogue and policy influence.
